Sycamore Springs Senior Living Community Continues with Heightened Infection Control Steps to Minimize COVID-19 Exposure

Residents and staff undergoing proactive re-testing following state-mandated testing in June; three residents resting with mild symptoms at local hospitals. All local health department and CDC guidelines being followed, including restricted visitation and social distancing.

ELIZABETHTON, Tenn. (July 16, 2020) – Sycamore Springs Senior Living Community is re-testing residents and team members in an effort to minimize exposure to COVID-19, after its early detection strategy resulted in three residents being relocated to the hospital with mild symptoms.

“In an effort to be as aggressive as possible in facing this worldwide pandemic, we have begun proactively retesting our residents and staff consistent with Tennessee Department of Health guidelines,” said Rhonda Mitchell, Executive Director of Sycamore Springs Senior Living Community. “Because of earlier facility-wide negative test results and our commitment to following local health department and CDC guidelines, we have every reason to believe that ongoing tests will continue to keep us vigilant with early detection. As part of our strategy, two residents have been relocated to Johnson City Medical Center and one to Sycamore Shoals Hospital after displaying mild symptoms. We are in frequent contact with the families and will continue to stay apprised of their condition.”

“We are closely monitoring all the residents and adhering to stringent protocols for early symptom detection. Earlier this June, during our state required facility wide testing, all employees and all residents tested negative for COVID-19. This, in addition to our many other precautionary steps, goes to show that our infection control measures are working, and that our team members have been doing an outstanding job keeping our Sycamore Springs family safe and healthy,” said Jason Gibson, Regional Director of Operations for Legacy Senior Living, the management organization for Sycamore Springs Senior Living Community.

“Sycamore Springs Senior Living Community continues ongoing extraordinary and unprecedented precautions to protect residents, keep caregivers healthy, and limit access by visitors as part of its COVID-19 strategy,” said Mitchell.

“Sycamore Springs Senior Living Community is going out of our way to provide our team members with the tools and support they need--safeguarding their physical and spiritual well-being. They are caring for our seniors in an unprecedented challenging time, and they have the full support of the entire family that is Legacy Senior Living,” said Gibson.

Sycamore Springs Senior Living Community and its network of facilities started purchasing personal protection equipment before the pandemic, and continues to work with multiple vendors to secure necessary materials, including blue isolation gowns and a variety of masks (N95, KN95 and surgical).

“We are in consistent contact with all our residents’ families and will continue to communicate routinely to ensure the safety and well-being of each resident. We will continue to stay alert and do everything in our power to protect our residents and team members,” said Mitchell.
